Gold Medalists And More Support Sha’carri Richardson On Twitter

Published

on

Sha’Carri will forever be THAT GIRL.

First off, let’s start off by saying this: Sha’Carri Richardson, aka one of the fastest women alive, will always be THAT GIRL.

Now that we’ve got our facts straight, let’s get to the news.

The 21-year-old US sprinter was recently disqualified from competing in the 100-meter race at the Tokyo Olympics after testing positive for cannabis.

During an interview on NBC’s Today show, Sha’Carri took full responsibility for her actions while also sharing that she was in “a state of emotional panic” and “blinded by sadness” after a “complete stranger” — a reporter — broke the news of her mother’s death to her.

Activists, celebrities, members of Congress, Olympic gold medalists, and more shared their support online for Sha’Carri, expressing the need for more interest in the mental health of athletes and a greater need for a change in “archaic” rules regarding marijuana. Here are some of the most thoughtful responses:

1.

This is ridiculous. Let this women run

If legal cannabis helped her deal with pain, anxiety, or whatever she was going through that’s acceptable

If @itskerrii isn’t in the @Olympics I’m not watching

Absurd decision, reverse it.

What is this about?

3.

I don’t know why marijuana is banned. Maybe a good reason. Maybe not. I know how it feels to lose a parent. Indescribable pain! I’m from the same neighborhood as @itskerrii Tough place! I wish people would stop calling her and this ban stupid unless you know the reason for both.

5.

There is no need for Sha’Carri to apologize.

We need to get rid of archaic rules for a substance that is fully legal in 19 states plus DC.

And we need to legalize it at the federal level. https://t.co/Ws0n8ykKIP

6.

Good morning and Happy Friday to everyone except the Olympic Committee, for banning Sha’Carri Richardson for weed while Michael Phelps weed-coughs gold medals.

Twitter: @mmpadellan / Via Twitter: @mmpadellan

7.

So in the last few weeks: WTA said Osaka can’t take care of her mental health, gymnastics punished Simone for being too good, Sha’Carri banned for racist marijuana laws, five BW banned for natural testosterone levels. It’s almost as if there’s a concerted anti-BW effort here.

8.

Sha’Carri already won to us. And after the Naomi Osaka thing we know y’all really don’t care about us anyways. We already chose our own winners.

Twitter: @ravenscimaven / Via Twitter: @ravenscimaven

9.

Black women have no space to grieve. We have no space to cope. We have no space to make mistakes.

She shouldn’t have to apologize.

Let Sha’Carri Richardson go to #Olympics2021 https://t.co/aG7WeJpUwZ

11.

Sha’Carri Richardson broke a rule. And it’s ridiculous weed has this stigma. Both things can be true.

She handled this entire ordeal like an adult and accepted complete responsibility. The conversation now should be about athlete’s mental health and improving that response.

13.

It is so devastating what Sha’Carri Richardson is going through right now. The pain she’s felt, the pain she is feeling now. This country could do such a better job of protecting, supporting and cheering for Black women

14.

In 1998 a white guy competed, won the snowboarding gold, then tested positive for pot and had his medal taken from him. Then the IOC reversed course and gave him his medal back. Surely they can let Sha’Carri compete in 2021.

15.

I see a lack of empathy with this Sha’Carri Richardson situation. Yes she ultimately broke the rules (which is a dumb ass rule at that), but she just lost her mother a week before the biggest race of her life. Not to mention she’s only 21. Grace should be extended here.

Stacey Abrams’ Voting Rights Organization Donates $1.34 Million To Help Clear Medical Debt In Five States

Stacey Abrams voting rights organization Fair Fight Action continues to pay it forward, and in their latest act of kindness, the group has donated over $1 million to help clear the medical debt for folks across five different states.

According to CBS News, the organization donated a total of $1.34 million to the organization RIP Medical Debt, and the money will be used to eliminate over $210 million of medical debt for over 108,000 people across Georgia, Alabama, Arizona, Louisiana, and Mississippi. In the press release, Fair Fight Action stated, “The more than 108,000 individuals will receive a letter in the coming days, contained in a yellow envelope, informing them that their debt has been relieved.”

Stacey Abrams also spoke about her organization’s donation and said, “I know firsthand how medical costs and a broken healthcare system put families further in debt. This problem is exacerbated in states like Georgia where failed leaders have callously refused to take action and expand Medicaid, even during a pandemic. So Fair Fight is stepping in.”

She continued, “For people of color, the working poor and middle-class families facing crushing costs,  we hope to relieve the strain on desperate Americans and on hospitals struggling to remain open.”

Fair Fight Action’s donation is the third-largest donation made in the history of RIP Medical Debt.

The donation is also a part of the organization’s effort to help fight for full Medicaid expansion throughout the country.

As we previously reported, last month, Stacey Abrams was one of the people that was named Most Influential by Time Magazine.

Cher Instead Of Aaliyah In Queen Of The Damned

Published

“There she is sitting in this chair.”

You probably know that Queen of the Damned, the 2002 vampire horror film, also marked singer and actor Aaliyah’s final role as Akasha before she tragically died in a plane crash in 2001.

In an oral history for Vulture detailing the making of the film, director Michael Rymer revealed that, before Aaliyah was cast, Cher was actually in consideration for the role as well.

“I had a number of meetings with actresses, including Cher,” Rymer claimed. “I drove out to her Malibu house and went through this vast series of Spanish Colonial rooms. There she is sitting in this chair, and she really was already quite a viable Akasha.”

Ultimately, however, Rymer chose Aaliyah: “I just had a very strong belief that if we were going to do African queens, we had to have a person of color. I said that to the studio, and we made these long lists — Halle Berry, Regina King, an embarrassment of riches.”

Rymer later states that Aaliyah was “lovely” to work with and claims that, to prepare her for the audition process, he had Aaliyah “[recite] Oscar Wilde in a very exaggerated Egyptian accent, crawling around on her knees like a calf.”

Kodak Black & Supa Cindy Hosted An Event In Miami (Video)

Published

By

If it’s one thing Kodak Black is going to do, it’s give back to his community! Yesterday alongside radio personality Supa Cindy they hosted an event at Ives Estates Park in Miami to spotlight over 20 women who are currently battling breast cancer or have beaten the disease. Women attending the event received wigs, cash gifts, and even a journal with a note from Kodak, according to Local 10 news.

Kodak spoke about the women at the event, saying, “I know they’ll appreciate it. I want to show these women they’re queens, they’re strong, and they’re going to get through it. Pray with them. We’re going to get through it together.” Taressa Hall, who is currently fighting breast cancer, said the event meant a lot to her. “It makes me continue to fight. It encourages me to go through this journey, continue through this journey, and it encourages me to be a witness to other people that we all can survive,” said Taressa.

Kodak has continued to donate to worthy causes all year. As we previously reported in September, he donated $20,000 towards the passing of a Florida police officer who died after contracting COVID-19. Kodak Black was apparently so moved by the story of Fort Lauderdale police officer Jennifer Sepot, he donated the money to her  2-year-old daughter to help secure her future

Even while he was behind bars in February he offered to pay college tuition for the children of two FBI agents who were fatally shot in the line of duty. Kodak’s goal was to ensure that the families impacted by this loss didn’t have to worry about sending their kids to college.

We love to see it!
