LA-Pennsylvania rapper LBM, a.k.a. Lil Big Medium makes “emo-rap”; it’s got a delivery that’s melodic, heart-on-his-sleeve style, with a grasp of romantic and emotional tragedy. LBM’s breakout single, ‘Stranded’ has had more than 350,000 streams on Spotify and over half a million streams on Soundcloud; these combined with a coveted feature on VIBE TV would make LBM a star – but he sees the bigger picture. The larger story continued to play out in the follow-up video ‘Make Believe’, while this is expanded in his new songs and videos, including his latest drop, ‘Sinner’.
Charismatic and comfortable in front of the camera, there’s no doubt LBM is a natural on-screen star with a videogenic presence that can make even the darkest of songs feel like a sing-along. This is the case with his new single and video, ‘Sinner’, where he reveals he is, and always will be a sinner; and while he’s on the come-up for now, his demons only truly go away when he’s high.
The music video for ‘Sinner’, directed by Jordan Moran, is as dark as the title might suggest. Opening with a masked person shovelling dirt, we question why it is that he’s digging – digging something, anything, but what? – and why he’s all alone in a forest just before nightfall. From the forest to an old hallway, LBM is surrounded by his (masked) posse as he raps the words like a lullaby – melodic and rhythmic, so smooth you might forget how foreboding they really are. Who’s behind the masks? You’ll have to watch the video below to find out. As always, check out LBM and his music online on his official website.
