More artists are continuing to speak out against J.K. Rowling and denounce the Harry Potter author for her anti-trans opinions.
“Trans women are women. Trans men are men. Non-binary people are themselves. I love you, I see you and your safety and well-being are paramount,” Lin-Manuel Miranda tweeted on Thursday (June 11), seemingly referencing Rowling’s stance against the validity of the trans community.
Kim Petras, who is trans herself, took more direct aim by calling out the British author by name. “Ok jk rowling just lit rally the devil. none of that shit is even real. it’s all twisted -_— oooof,” she wrote to her fans on Wednesday (June 10).
Meanwhile Mxmtoon suggested angry Potterheads switch their allegiance to Percy Jackson author Rick Riordan. “Have since been reminded that not only is JK a shithead but the beliefs she holds seep into the storyline and writing of Harry Potter. I would like to take this opportunity to say stan Rick Riodan,” she wrote, before hilariously following up with, “I spelled his name wrong I’m gonna go hide.”
Earlier in the week, everyone from King Princess and Mary Lambert to Tegan and Sara GLAAD also issued stark rebukes of Rowling’s comments, which began on Saturday (June 6) when she took to social media to openly criticize a Devex opinion piece whose headline referenced “people who menstruate” rather than using the word “women.” In the days following, she doubled down on her remarks rather than offer an apology, ignorantly claiming that trans people want to “eras[e] the concept of sex” altogether, revealing she was the survivor of sexual assault and publishing a longer opinion piece on her personal website in defense of her position.
