Our resident photographer Ruby Gaunt was at O2 Academy Brixton on 14 October, where she captured Irish band Picture This…in pictures.

Courtney Love accused Olivia Rodrigo of ripping off her former band’s album cover.
On Thursday (June 24), Love posted a screenshot of a promotional photo of the High School Musical: The Musical: The Series star posing as a crying beauty queen for her debut album, Sour.
“Spot the difference! #twinning,” Love captioned the photo comparing it to her former band Hole’s 1994 Live Through This album cover. A Facebook user inquired if Love was upset with Rodrigo.
“She didn’t ask. So bit of both. I dig manners,” Love responded.
Another social media user said that they believe this conversation shouldn’t be focused on who did it best but rather women supporting women. “The younger generation taking inspiration from the ones that paved the way,” they added.
Love quipped back, “Can prefer the version of my idea that she likes best. You’re lucky that she walked through fire for you now and is the revolutionary that she is. Allowing your life to be embodied and frail currently… Keep your ageist sexism to yourself here!”
Both photos do feature crying beauty queens holding flowers but Rodrigo’s was not used for an album cover. The majority of social media users agreed that it was a loose interpretation if anything.
Rodrigo responded to Love on her Instagram post, writing, “Love u and live through this sooooo much.”
Love seemingly responded to Rodrigo’s post by asking for flowers.
“@oliviarodrigo Olivia – you’re welcome. My favorite florist is in Notting Hill, London! Dm me for deets! I look forward to reading your note,” Love commented.
Earlier this week, Rodrigo’s team was accused of copying indie rock band Pom Pom Squad’s aesthetic. This followed a Twitter thread that went viral where promotional shots from both of the artists were compared.
All three are deeply inciteful songs, as Hank explains,
“The singles are more or less about relationships. Even though the lyrics focus on specific situations, they can reference any number of events I’ve experienced throughout my life. That’s part of the beauty of songwriting as far as I’m concerned. You can write a song describing one particular set of circumstances, but oftentimes they find connections to similar emotions and events that transpire later on. Eventually, over time, the songs find a common thread.”
‘Why Go’, a stirring track, sets its focus on an argument between two fictional people, who are nonetheless committed to the relationship. Hank!’s vocals are raw and slightly discordant in a pleasing way – think a cross between Morrissey and Bob Dylan; intellectual music. The instrumentals further enhance the Morrissey vibe, jangly guitars and energetic drums.
Speaking of ‘Why Go’, Hank! says,
“At the time, I tended to dismiss it as pure fiction, because I really didn’t know what I was talking about,” he muses. “It was pure fiction. Now, however, I’m finding some meaning that I had not necessarily intended to unearth before. I’m particularly keen on the off-kilter drum fills.”
Hank!’s music takes a few listens to really appreciate the deeper components, but it’s nonetheless appealing even just the first time through. The tapering off at the end of ‘Why Go’ was a surprising and very pleasant adjunct to the rest of the track – the ear follows along as if following a car as it drives into the distance.
Coldplay won’t keep making music forever, and if you believe what they told NME in a recent interview, that finale could be coming sooner rather than later:
“We’re going to make 12 albums. Because it’s a lot to pour everything into making them. I love it and it’s amazing, but it’s very intense too. I feel like because I know that challenge is finite, making this music doesn’t feel difficult, it feels like, ‘This is what we’re supposed to be doing’.”
Fear not Coldplay faithful! Those words don’t mean the band will be breaking up. Lead singer Chris Martin is referring specifically to studio albums, leaving the door open for more touring, collaborations, and producing.
In the same interview, Martin revealed that Coldplay has been trying and failing to write a Bond theme song for the past 20 years.
