James Charles Return To YouTube Video Backlash

Yeah, this really happened.

For those of you who don’t follow YouTube drama, I’m going to give you “James Charles: SparkNotes version.”

YouTuber James Charles has long been accused of inappropriate behavior online. One of his biggest controversies was in 2019, when YouTubers Tati and Jeffree Star accused him of sexting minors.

That turned out to be false, as James proved with his receipts. However, more underaged people came forward this year, accusing James of sexual misconduct and inappropriate communication:

TOTALLY UNEXPECTED: James Charles exposed for allegedly having inappropriate interaction w/minor. James’s alleged victim said they were 16 in comments, according to sources. In one Snap, James allegedly tells victim “pick me up for some road head.” TikTok has since been deleted.

Shortly after, James’ channel was temporarily demonetized, he was dropped by Morphe, and eventually, he took a break from being online.

For a full timeline of the allegations and backlash that followed, click here.

Well on Friday, James returned to YouTube with a new video, “An Open Conversation,” where he addressed the most recent allegations that he sexts/inappropriately communicates with minors and fans.

However, one thing that really disturbed people is the way in which he addressed these allegations — in a “Getting Ready With”-type video format!

“For today’s video, I really want to ‘Get Ready Together’ for a few different reasons,” James said. “One, being I miss doing makeup so, so much, and I really wanna do a pretty look for today’s video.”

James did acknowledge that this might be inappropriate, but said his goal was to be genuine and to create a “beautiful look.”

So, then James went on to address the allegations, while doing his makeup.

“At the end of the day, as the adult and the person with the platform, it was 1,000 percent my responsibility to be doing my due diligence and checking into the people that I was speaking to, and I failed to do that,” he said.

“I am so, so sorry for disappointing you guys and letting you down once again,” Charles continued. “As scary as it is to think about, I’ve also come to terms with the fact that this isn’t just something that I can move on from. I am aware that, you know, no matter what I say in this video or 10 videos down the line, or a year’s worth of videos down the line, these stories and accusations are going to follow me for the rest of my life and the rest of my career, and that sucks so much.”

Although he did apologize for not doing his “due diligence,” James also said that a lot of the accusations in the now-viral thread are fake or baseless. “There were countless videos that were completely fake. I’m talking about conversations that fully never happened, that were edited from beginning to end.”

@JamesCharles / Via

The thread he’s referring to basically compiled all the allegations against James from all social media (TikToks, YouTube videos, etc.).

Still, the backlash to the video was pretty heavy on Twitter, with people criticizing the format, the approach, and the tone of the video:

not james charles talking about his inappropriate behaviour w/ minors while doing a makeup look 😭😭😭

Scarlett Johansson Is Coming For Her ‘Black Widow’ Coins In A Lawsuit Against Disney

Whew! Scarlett Johansson isn’t playing any games with her “Black Widow” coins! According to The Wall Street Journal, the award-winning actress filed a lawsuit against Disney on Thursday. The lawsuit, filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court, alleges that Disney breached their contract with Scarlett by releasing the Marvel film in theaters and on Disney+ at the same time.

Apparently, the agreement between both parties was that ‘Black Widow’ would be exclusively released in theaters. Scarlett, who played the main character in the Marvel joint, said in her lawsuit that her salary depended largely on the film’s box office performance. The movie reportedly earned $80 million dollars at the US box office and $78 million overseas during its opening weekend. But, the lawsuit claims adding the film to Disney+ allegedly cost Scarlett over $50 million. Days after the premiere, ticket sales for the movie dropped faster than most of Marvel’s previous films.

“Disney intentionally induced Marvel’s breach of the agreement, without justification, in order to prevent Ms. Johansson from realizing the full benefit of her bargain with Marvel,” according to the lawsuit documents.

‘Black Widow’ earned about $60 million in Disney+ streams, where subscribers were offered $30 at-home purchases. However, The Wall Street Journal reports that a company spokesman has shut down talks of the lawsuit having any merit saying Disney “fully complied with Ms. Johansson’s contract.”

“…and furthermore, the release of Black Widow on Disney+ with Premier Access has significantly enhanced her ability to earn additional compensation on top of the $20 million she has received to date,” the Disney spokesman allegedly said.

The lawsuit documents claim otherwise saying Scarlett attempted to renegotiate her earnings after learning about the simultaneous release, but neither Disney or Marvel responded. Pre-pandemic, Scarlett was reportedly “concerned” about Disney wanting a dual-release, but was reassured in a 2019 email from Marvel Chief Counsel Dave Galluzzi that wouldn’t be the case. The executive said the movie’s release would follow a “traditional theatrical model” and they’d “come to an understanding” if the plan changed.

Scarlett’s lawsuit also claims ‘Black Widow’ was released on the streaming platform to grow its audience — given that Disney Chairman Robert Iger and Chief Executive Bob Chapek depend on the performance of Disney+ for their annual bonuses.

“In short, the message to—and from— Disney’s top management was clear: increase Disney+ subscribers, never mind your contractual promises, and you will be rewarded,” the lawsuit stated.

But Disney fired back at those notes saying the lawsuit is “sad and distressing in its callous disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.” Amid the unpredictable circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent theater closings, Disney opted to release more films via their streaming platform, ‘Black Widow’ being one.

As you may already know, Scarlett joined Marvel’s world in 2010 on ‘Iron Man 2’ as the Black Widow character. The latest movie and focus of this lawsuit  is said to be her ninth and last Marvel movie.

“This will surely not be the last case where Hollywood talent stands up to Disney and makes it clear that, whatever the company may pretend, it has a legal obligation to honor its contracts,” said one of Scarlett’s attorneys John Berlinski.

Da Baby Reportedly Dropped From The UK’s Parklife Music Festival

According to @tmz_tv#DaBaby has reportedly been dropped from the UK’s #Parklife music festival. This comes after his controversial comments at the #RollingLoud festival that occurred a few days ago.

This comes after it appears his name appears to have been removed from the promotional material.  #MeganTheeStallion & #YungThug are also headlining the festival that takes place in September.

Parklife Music Festival has yet to release an official statement.

As previously reported, Da Baby also lost his partnership with boohooMan. “boohooMan condemn the use of homophobic language and confirm we will no longer be working with DaBaby,” the retail company said in a statement posted to their official Instagram.

This news comes almost a month after DaBaby teamed up with the online retailer to co-create a fashion line. The collection included a 100 limited edition pieces, which reportedly embodied his “bold, creative and colorful style.”

As you know, DaBaby made controversial statements involving the LGBTQ community and people living with HIV/AIDS, during his Rolling Loud set.

He stated, “If you didn’t show up today with HIV, AIDS, or any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases, that’ll make you die in two to three weeks, then put your cellphone lighter up,” DaBaby said during his performance. “Ladies, if your p***y smell like water, put your cellphone lighter up. Fellas, if you ain’t sucking d**k in the parking lot, put your cellphone lighter up.”

After receiving backlash, DaBaby released what seemed to be an official apology in a series of tweets. He began by calling out his critics saying they wouldn’t show the same support when racist cops kill Black people. Then, he spoke specifically to people affected by HIV/AIDS and to the LGBTQ community.

“Anybody who done ever been effected by AIDS/HIV y’all got the right to be upset, what I said was insensitive even though I have no intentions on offending anybody. So my apologies. But the LGBT community…I ain’t trippin on y’all, do you. y’all business is y’all business.”
