No Doubt takes on the Wild Wild West in new music video for “Looking Hot”, and then promptly takes the video down- we’ll tell you why! Hey guys, you’re watching ClevverMusic. No Doubt released their new music video for single, “Looking Hot” on Friday and over the weekend the video was taken down on YouTube by the group themselves after receiving backlash from Native American groups. The Wild West-theme of the video has apparently offended the Native American community finding that the video disrespects their culture.

In the “Looking Hot” music video, Gwen and band mate Tony Kanal are prisoners in an old Western down, and are dressed in tribal gear. Gwen is tied up on a wall by a sheriff, and also dances in a tee pee and on a horse while Tony is locked up in prison. The remaining band member’s rock out in the town square dressed as cowboys. Eventually, after some drinking occurs and a fire dance happens, Gwen and and Tony escape their capture and flee the town.

As soon as No Doubt realized the backlash, they took it very seriously, taking the video down immediately. The band has now apologized via their official website. Part of the message read, “As a multi-racial band our foundation is built upon both diversity and consideration for other cultures. Our intention with our new video was never to offend, hurt or trivialize Native American people, their culture or their History.” The band consulted with Native American studies experts and realized their offense.

We definitely believe that No Doubt wasn’t trying to hurt anyone, and we think they handled the situation perfectly. The comments on the video took two sides: those that felt the video was offensive and those who felt the band had the right to dress up in another culture for the video. You can see it yourself as it’s still up on Vimeo for now, but likely won’t be there long. We’ll put a link in the description for you.
