The Primetime Emmy nominations are in and Black girl/boy magic is representing.
From Laverne Cox to Leslie Jones, Billy Porter, Issa Rae, Sterling K. Brown, Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross, Black star power is acknowledged in major categories.
The nominations for the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards were announced Tuesday during a virtual event streamed on the Television Academy’s website (see clip above).
“Saturday Night Live” alum Leslie Jones revealed the nominees along with Josh Gad, Laverne Cox, and Tatiana Maslany.
Jimmy Kimmel will host the ceremony on Sep. 20 in Los Angeles, though it remains unclear how the COVID-19 pandemic will affect the broadcast.
“I don’t know where we will do this or how we will do this or even why we are doing this but we are doing it and I am hosting it,” Kimmel said in a statement on June 16.
HBO’s “Watchmen,” starring Regina King, leads with 26 nominations, the most of any show, while Netflix scored a record-breaking 160 nominations.
Marvel stars Hugh Jackman, Mark Ruffalo, and Zendaya received nominations for their work.
